ANGER MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUES

 

There are many ways that people work on their anger.  Some of these are healthier than others.  Anger, resentment, and rage are like venom to people; holding onto to these only leads to an increase of anger/rage/resentment and causes further friction between people.  The following are 2 specific groups of techniques used by people to let go of their anger:

 

Physical Outlets

 

 

Some of the best include;

1) writing

2) exercising

3) cleaning/baking/cooking

4) physical construction (hammering, cutting)

5) hitting pillows, mattresses

6) yelling, screaming [not at people]

 

Calmer techniques

These include the following:

1) relaxation

2) imagery

3) breathing

4) saying calming phrases

 

 

All of these techniques lead to a person feeling better.  Often times, when people decrease their anger, they find they weren't really angry.  It was a mask for depression, anxiety or another feeling.  For other people, the recognition that anger is a real  feeling is half the battle.  It then can allow them to express it in a healthy manner.
